Who should play 6U Hockey?

This program is intended for children ages 5-6 with hockey experience. 6U hockey offers more in-depth hockey instruction and skill development than our Learn to Play hockey program.

How much practice ice time do skaters receive?

Skaters will have practice for one hour, two times per week. There will also be an opportunity for half ice games during the second half of the season. These games will be in addition to the two one-hour practices. Games will be scheduled against local area teams. Both home and away games may be scheduled.

Are there games for this level of play?

For an additional fee, skaters can elect to participate in regular season games throughout the season. These games are part of a local 6U League. This is optional.

For skaters that do not elect to participate in league play, there will be an opportunity for games during the second half of the season.

Please note that all games will be in addition to the two one-hour practices. Games will be scheduled against local area teams. Both home and away games may be scheduled.

What happens during the on ice sessions?

During practice sessions, skaters will receive instruction from coaching staff in hockey fundamentals (skating, stick-handling, shooting, etc). During game sessions, the ice will be divided into 2-3 sections. Games are generally played 4 on 4 with no goalie.

Why isn't the full ice surface used for games at this level?

We follow USA Hockey's American Development Model for skill development. Great information on why we do this can be found here

What equipment does my child need to participate?

All skaters are required to wear full hockey gear during on ice sessions.
