Who should play Squirt Hockey?

This program is intended for children ages 9-10 that have completed at least one season at the Learn to Play or U8 level. Skaters are divided into teams based on player evaluations to allow coaching staff to provide appropriate skill level development. All Squirt level teams will compete to represent Oregon Hockey at the State Tournament at the end of the season.

How much ice time do skaters receive?

Skaters will have a minimum of two weeknight practices and usually two games per weekend.

What should be expected for games?

Squirt hockey is the first level of hockey to use the full ice surface for games. Full ice games are a big transition for players (and parents). Players will get exposure to officiating and the rules of hockey (checking is prohibited). Teams skate 5 on 5 (with goalies). Games are scheduled against local area teams, both home and away. Teams generally schedule 1-2 tournaments as well. Travel and overnight stays may be required for games/tournaments. As this represents addition cost above the Squirt hockey fees, participation in these events is encouraged but not required.

What equipment does my child need to participate?

All skaters are required to wear full hockey gear during on ice sessions.
